As result of its mission, the Anglican Diocese of Sydney has a concern for how our society operates and how Christians can live as God's people in our social context.
The Social Issues Executive seeks to help Anglicans and others to think through social issues from a Christian perspective, and to help them in their daily lives as they interact with their world.
The Executive is a committee appointed by the Standing Committee of the Diocese. The following people are currently appointed:
The Rev Dr Andrew Cameron (Chairman)
The Rev Michael Hill
Mr Darren Mitchell
Deaconess Margaret Rodgers
Dr Karin Sowada
The Rev Dr Andrew Ford
Dr Megan Best
The Executive employs a researcher, Lisa Watts. She can be contacted as follows:
email: Lisa Watts
telephone: (02) 9577-9956
fax: (02) 9577-9988
mail: c/- 1 King St Newtown NSW 2042
Lisa works with Andrew Cameron and Andrew Ford on the campus of Moore College. The College has kindly agreed to host these web pages.
The work of the Social Issue Executive was once done by the ‘Social Issues Committee’ (SIC).
You are still in Moore College webspace, and this page is for the Social Issues Executive (SIE) of the Anglican Church Diocese of Sydney, which is based at Moore. See the column on the right for more information about the SIE.
Our main web presence is on the Anglican Media website. We use these pages to post older and more in-depth material, such as:
‘Social Issues briefings’:
a free service!
We produce a free Social Issues briefing about every two weeks (or a little longer for more in-depth briefings). Each is a few pages pages long, and gives some background information on an issue that has recently been in the news. It will offer some ways of thinking about it, and perhaps acting on it, as Christians.
The idea is to give you ways of talking about Christianity in the workplace, and to help us all live in our world as followers of Jesus. We don’t pretend these briefings will always be right, but they'll usually be interesting. We’ll always try to be as clear, informative and true to God’s word as a page or three will allow.
On the web
Recent briefings are posted at our Anglican Media webpage. However your can receive them a little earlier by email ...
How to subscribe to email briefings
If you want to receive these briefings by email, you can subscribe using either of these methods.
1. Do it yourself:
If you want to have complete control over your subscription, click here.
2. Let us do it:
We prefer you to ‘do it yourself’ but we realize that method is not for everyone. If you would like us to help you out, email social.issues@moore.edu.au.
Use of Social Issues briefings
When you receive each briefing, you are free to use the ideas it contains (with appropriate acknowledgement, and each briefing will include details of how to do that.) If you forward it to someone, please forward the whole thing unchanged. You are also welcome to send feedback and/or ideas to social.issues@moore.edu.au, although we probably won’t be able to reply.
At the moment, Social Issues briefings are only available by email or on the web. We'll do RSS when we've worked out how!
You may know someone net-less who would appreciate these briefings. So print them out, pass them on, and you’ll have something else talk about.
